Camping at falling rain

Fire

So we attempted to go camping a couple of weeks ago at Raccoon Creek State Park but Mother Nature had other plans and decided to rain almost the whole time. After the first night we thought we would brave it until the second night got a little bit crazy. We grabbed some of our stuff and decided to leave the tent up, come home and then go back out the next day, well when we tried to leave there were downed trees, branches, you name it all over the road. We were almost out of the campground when we were stopped by the park ranger who told us that a big tree had fallen and blocked the road so we couldn’t get out. Fortunely there is a back entrance but we had to go all the way back into the park to reach it. What a crazy night.

Blocked

Fourth of July was spent at a friends house with a nice little cookout.

Among other fun things we also had some bubble blowing going on, pictured is Michael (his house), O (my daughter the tall one), and Michael’s daugther, Julia.

In other news I finished Echo Burning by Lee Childs, this is book 5 in the Jack Reacher series, it’s fun stuff nothing heavy weight, it’s a good summer read. The main character Jack Reacher is a mid-thirties ex-military policeman who gets caught up in an assassination conspiracy after accepting a ride from a woman in the middle of Texas.

I’ve also watched a bunch of crap movies including but not limited to;
Chaos Theory – lame even with Ryan Reynolds and Stuart Townsend
11:14 – another horrible movie with a good cast ( The events leading up to an 11:14 PM car crash, from five very different perspectives)
Macbeth – a modern day version of Macbeth only set in the Melbourne underwold, it looked good but that’s about it.

I’m sure there’s more but that’s it for now.

Book update and more

I’ve been enjoying having a chance to reconnect with everything that I’ve been apart from for the past year. Managed to get things done for the Baltimore convention as well; we’ve got buttons, a post card and two books to take with us.

Got caught up on some reading, including Warren Ellis’ Crooked Little Vein: A Novel which if you’ve read his comics this is more of the same only in prose form. I enjoyed it, but your mileage may vary.

Also read the The Bizarro Starter Kit (Orange) which contained some really great off the wall stuff by 10 of the leading authors in the Bizarro genre. I grabbed it for Carlton Mellick III who put his story Baby Jesus Buttplug in the collection.

After that back to back collection I had to take a break before my brain turned to mush.

Also managed to catch up on some movies and what not.

Since the end of World of Orenda, I started writing a new webcomic for release hopefully in October.

Went to Jordan and Becki’s new home for a party on Saturday which was great. Got to meet Jordan‘s brother, and Alison.

Book Review: The Man In The High Castle

After a long ride, I am currently in Virginia writing this post on the hotel’s free wifi, life is good.

Finally finished Phillip K. Dick’s The Man in the High Castle which was a really enjoyable, alternate future where America lost the war and is ruled by the German and Japanese. Great stuff.
